Custom Comb Shapes and Sizes

Put the overall profile, every tooth zone and any handle or moving part on one controlled drawing.

  • Critical dimensions separated from reference dimensions
  • Feasibility checked against the selected material and route

Start With the Use and a Controlled Drawing

A reference sample can show intent, but the drawing should define what production and inspection will measure. Mark requirements as fixed, preferred or open so feasibility changes remain visible.

  • Start with: Intended use, material direction and an existing comb, sketch, CAD file or annotated image
  • Dimension together: Overall envelope, thickness, tooth zones, tip profile, handle and branding area
  • Flag for review: Small radii, thin sections, long teeth, hinges, mirrors and other assembled parts

Build the Drawing in Four Layers

Each layer answers a different production question and should stay on the same drawing revision.

1. Set the Overall Envelope

Define length, width, thickness, corners and the datums used to locate other features.

  • Identify critical dimensions and reference-only dimensions
  • Show front, side and section views where thickness changes
  • Record the units and drawing revision

Comb samples with fine, mixed and wide tooth geometries

2. Specify Every Tooth Zone

Define tooth count or pitch, gap, length, taper, root and tip profile for each zone.

  • Do not describe a zone only as fine, medium or wide
  • Show transitions between mixed or dual-sided layouts
  • Review fine, thin or long teeth against material stiffness

3. Add Handles, Tails or Moving Parts

Show the grip, tail, pivot, stop, mirror or case interface as part of the product rather than a later accessory.

  • Check grip, balance, open and closed positions where relevant
  • Define clearances and assembly relationships
  • Use a functional sample for hinges and other moving parts

4. Confirm the Production Route

Review whether the approved geometry suits an existing route, a modified design or new tooling.

  • Injection molding for suitable plastic structures
  • Sheet, wood or bamboo cutting for relevant materials
  • Confirm tooling, finishing, achievable tolerance and sample route in the quotation

What Must Be Approved Before Production

The drawing controls measurable requirements; the physical sample confirms form, finish and function.

01

Define Inputs

Send intended use, reference, material direction, target dimensions, tooth layout, quantity and functions.

02

Review the Drawing

Resolve open dimensions, datums, tooth zones, branding areas and any assembly details before sampling.

03

Approve the Sample

Record the approved drawing revision and sample as the production and inspection references.

Have a Drawing, Sample or Annotated Image?

Send it with the intended use, material direction, quantity and the dimensions that cannot change.

Frequently Asked Questions

Confirm these points before sample approval and production.

Length, width, thickness, handle, teeth, holes and moving parts can be reviewed. Feasibility depends on material and process.
Send a 2D drawing, CAD file, images or sample, plus use, material, quantity and packaging.
Review the dimensioned drawing first, then approve the sample for proportions, teeth, edges and function.
MOQ starts at 50 pcs. Sample lead time is 15 days, and production lead time is 28 days after sample approval. New molds, CNC work, assemblies or finishing may require a higher MOQ or additional time.
Check wall thickness, tooth length, radii, flatness, hinge clearance and material movement for the selected route.
